The Beautiful Flamingo

Be a flamingo in a world of pigeons

Unknown

The color of a flamingo can vary on its diet, ranging from light pink to bright red. Did you know that these color variations are due to the levels of bacteria and beta carotene in their food supply?  At risk of sounding like Sir David Attenborough, a flamingo’s coloring  is an indication of its health and the more vibrantly colored they are, the better for finding a mate.

Flamingos are omnivores and filter feed on shrimp and algae.  Their bills are uniquely upside-down allowing them to separate mud and silt from their food.

And one more fact: a group of Flamingos is called a flamboyance! I love that!
